The Roundhouse is an old steam engine repair shed that became a legendary venue in the 1960s and 70s. This is where punk and glam rock started, where The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd made their names and The Doors played their only UK gig. It hosted the most spectacular and controversial theatrical performances of its day including works by Peter Brook and the Living Theatre from New York.
The Roundhouse is 48 metres in diameter from wall to wall and 18 metres high. An inner ring of iron columns measuring 24 metres across supports the graceful arches that brace the timber roof. A gallery overlooks the Main Venue.
